Heorot by ~Thorleifr. A beautifully fluid knotwork carving in beech wood that the artist said was inspired by the north portal of the Urnes stave church in Norway. About one meter tall and definitely best seen in fullview. ( Featured by Kitten-of-Woe )

hey! I'm making a "selekjole" "serk" and a "forstykke" (don't know what its all in english <.<) but it's a vikingage dress and I was wondering if I could embroider this piece onto my frontpiece/ apron. it would fit perfectly, but I wouldn't do it unless I had the permision to do it. it looks stunning.

Hi!
Sure you can, but you don't actually need my permission, this design has been done about 1000 years ago, I have borrowed it myself...

It comes from here : thorleifr.deviantart.com/art/U…

Thank you so much! :D and yes, I know, I live in norway, but I didn't know this was exact as the urnes stavkirke, cause I haven't been there, so wanted to make sure, so I didn't steal your art! :p tehe, love all of your works btw! you're a big inspiration! :)

first time i heard of "Beech wood" D:, whats your opinion about it

First time really ? You do know that the word 'book' derives from 'beech' ? (actually from the ancient form of the word. It's more obvious in german: book = Buch and beech = Buche -> [link]).

It's one of the most commonly used tree over here for furniture and objects. Fairly regular, dense and heavy, but the natural color and grain pattern is rather boring. I use it a lot to make objects and tools..

Heorot, as in the name of the mead hall in Beowulf?
Fantastic art by the way, it looks extremely complicated.

Yes, like Hrogar's hall. (But I just copied one panel of the Urnes stavechurch...)
